What we can and can't take

Worth thirty seconds now so nobody's surprised in the driveway.

Yes, bring it on

  • Couches, chairs, tables, dressers
  • Mattresses and box springs
  • Fridges, washers, dryers, stoves
  • TVs, computers, electronics
  • Garage, basement and attic cleanouts
  • Yard waste, branches, old fencing
  • Treadmills and exercise equipment
  • Grills, mowers, patio furniture
  • Small remodel and construction debris

Don't see yours on the list? Ask. The answer is usually yes.

Sorry, we can't

  • Paint, solvents and household chemicals
  • Motor oil, gasoline, antifreeze
  • Propane tanks
  • Asbestos or anything containing it
  • Medical or biohazard waste
  • Car batteries
  • Ammunition or explosives

These are regulated and the landfill turns them away. Call anyway and we'll point you to who does take them. Tires and appliances with freon we can usually handle for a small extra fee, so ask.

Where the restricted stuff goes

We can't take these, but somebody near you can.

Paint, chemicals and oil

Summit County and Medina County both run household hazardous waste collection events through the year, and ReWorks in Summit County takes some of it year-round. Call your county's solid waste district for the current schedule.

Car batteries and propane

Most auto parts stores take car batteries back, often with a small credit. Propane tanks go back to any exchange cage at a hardware store or gas station.

Asbestos

This needs a licensed abatement contractor, not a junk removal crew. If you suspect old pipe wrap, floor tile or siding contains it, get it tested before anyone disturbs it. We'd rather lose the job than do that one wrong.

Medical waste and sharps

Pharmacies and hospital systems around Akron run sharps drop-off programmes. Your pharmacy counter is the fastest place to ask.

Questions

What won't you take?

Paint, chemicals, motor oil, gasoline, propane tanks, asbestos, medical waste, car batteries and ammunition. The full list is here, along with who does take them.

Do you recycle or donate anything?

Where we can. Furniture in good condition goes to donation, metal goes to scrap, electronics go to an electronics recycler. What's left goes to the transfer station, and we won't pretend that's nothing.

How much does junk removal cost?

Curbside single items start at $85 and a full truck bed piled high is $285. The whole table is on our pricing page, and we post it because guessing is stressful and haggling in a driveway is worse.
